Frequently Asked Questions

How much is your course?
The Teen/Beginning Driver Course ranges from $325-$375 and consists of 8 hrs of classroom and 6 hours of on-the-road instruction.

Do you offer hourly driving instruction?
For adults who do not have a SC license or just need to brush up on their driving skills, we provide instruction for $50 per hr with a minimum of 2 hrs.

Is there an advantage of taking the full course rather than the hourly instruction?
For licensed drivers 15-24 years old, completing a state certified driving course can reduce car insurance premiums by up to 10%.  The full course will eventually pay for itself in reduced premiums for young drivers.

Do you offer free pick up and drop off for students?
Yes, for the driving sessions only as long as it is in the local area.

How old must I be to attend the course?
You can attend the classroom session as early as age 14 as long as you are withing 3 months of your 15th birthday.  You cannot start the driving portion of the class until you are 15 and have your beginner's permit.

When are classes held?
The 8 hr class is held at least 2 Saturdays per month and sometimes additional classes are held during school holidays or during the summer months.  The 8 hr class runs from
8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and includes lunch.  Driving sessions are scheduled conveniently based on students' schedules.

Do I need to register for a class or can I just show up?
We request that you sign up in advance because class size is limited and we may not be able to accommodate you if we are full.

What if I need to cancel my class date?
We require 48 hr notice for cancellation so we have an opportunity to fill your spot.  If you simply no-show, you will be charged for the class and will have the ability to select another date.

Do I need to bring anything to class?
You will need to bring your Beginner's Permit, Driver's License or if you don't have either yet, a school I.D.  If you are under 18, you must also have a parent or guardian come in to sign the paperwork.  This is taken care of immediately upon arrival so the parent will be free to leave.

Are there any classroom rules I need to know about?
We want you to have an enjoyable time.  Other than expecting your full attention and discipline, you must turn off all cell phones.  No smoking is allowed, even during breaks.

What if I forget about a driving lesson or have to cancel?
If you need to cancel, please give at least 24 hours notice.

Can a parent or friend ride in the back seat during the driving lesson?
No. We need the student's full attention and do not want the distraction of someone in the backseat talking to the student.  We do not allow students to use a cell phone or text while driving.

Are students insured while driving in your cars?
Yes

Once I have completed my course, am I guaranteed to pass my road test with the DMV?
South Carolina law does not allow driving schools to make that guarantee.  We will do the best job possible with your student, but driving is like everything else - some people pick it up faster than others.  When the student has completed his/her training we will advise you on whether we think the student is ready to take their test, and, if not, what they need to work on.

Can we use your car to take the road test in?
It is included in your fee, but only if the instructor thinks that you are ready for your test upon completion of your driving sessions.

What if I am under 17 and my parents do not have a driver's license?
If you are under the age of 17, at least one parent or legal guardian MUST have a valid driver's license to be able to sign the consent for minor and the PDLA forms.  If they do not, you will need to wait until you are 18 and can sign for yourself.
